Halswell Ward
paul Lonsdale
CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL
Paul has been lucky enough to represent communities across the city in a variation of roles over his working career. Paul’s passion is Christchurch, its people, and helping grow and strengthen communities for a better future.
Paul has managed suburban shopping centres and helped establish the Central City Business Association in 2007. He was their central city manager for over seven years, helping build a city community and reduce inner city crime. Paul has also worked with the New Brighton business community as manager of the New Brighton Business and Land Owners Association for two years assisting getting key projects over the line.
Post the February 2011 earthquake, Paul was one of the key leaders in the Re:Start Container Mall initiative. He initiated the first steps to bring life back into the city sooner than would have otherwise been possible and then stayed on to manage Re:Start through to its success.
Paul entered local politics in 2013 elections where he ran for the Mayoralty and a council seat. Paul successfully was elected as Councillor for the Hagley Ferrymead Ward where he served for a three year term. Paul was involved in all aspects of the council and its subsidiaries sitting on six council controlled company boards, and 15 committees and working groups which gives him a unique understanding of the issues facing Christchurch.
